Torchlight II is a fun isometric dungeon crawler game, similar to Diablo II. It’s a “buy to play” single player game that also has a multi player mode for both private LAN and Internet play. It’s available on Steam and on the Runic Games website, often for less than $20. I picked it up on sale for $9.99 a couple years ago and I still have fun with it.
One of the nice things about Torchlight II is that it comes with a robust modification system. With some effort, you can make new items, classes, game modes, levels, and so on. While it’s not open source, Runic did provide access to most of the fundamental aspects of the game play in their tools.
The visuals of the game are very nice. It has a sort of painted look to it and uses the Ogre 3D engine to deliver efficient performance. The options menu is limited, but it does allow for turning off gore and enabling anti aliasing.
